How to Start 2025 as a Team: Four Simple Steps

Kateřina Švidrnochová

The new year is here, and with it comes a good opportunity to slow down for a moment and think about what comes next. Did you feel like there was no space for proper reflection in December? That is okay. Now is the right time for a team retrospective. All you need are four simple steps and the template I prepared for you will help you get started.

Why a retrospective?

A team retrospective is not only about what has already happened, but mainly about what comes next. It helps you as a team set priorities, name the obstacles, and create a plan that will guide you through the whole year.

How to use the template?

1. Action: What will we start in 2025?

  • Think about which new processes, tools, or approaches could work for your team.
  • Ask your team: “What behaviours, ways of thinking, or activities do we want to start doing to reach our goals?”

2. Discover: What did we discover?

  • Look back at the past year and focus on what moved you forward.
  • This can be new tools, situations, real-life examples, or even people you met.

3. STOP: What will we stop doing?

  • Reflection is also about what is slowing us down. What no longer works or may even be holding us back?
  • Be honest and name the things that take your energy but do not bring results.

4. Continue: What will we keep doing?

  • Acknowledge what has been working well. Which processes, tools, or approaches are worth keeping and developing further?

A team retrospective is a great way to start the new year. Do not be afraid to adapt it to the needs of your team and turn it into a regular practice. And if you are not sure how to start, download the template and let me know – I will be happy to help you with facilitation or planning.
